RENOVATING AND REPAINTING THE EXTERIOR
The restoration of the front exterior of Sussex House has started. The exterior was in a poor state of repair. Paint was flaking off the exterior windows and masonry work and some of the widow sills and glazing bars required replacing or refurbishing. Daniel and his team at Green Dan were called in to expertly repair the windows prior to redecoration. Likewise, railings required sandblasting and, where needed, repaired by local blacksmith James Price. James has made new window grills and other iron work for the basement windows and bespoke curtain rails of the bay windows. I'll showcase James' work in a future post. Suffice to say, his work is excellent.
Scaffolding has now been erected to enable local decorator Craig Wrigley to paint the exterior. The beautiful original front door has been stripped of it's modern and unattractive furniture prior to restoration. Ornate vintage brass hinges, a simple brass letter box and a large brass centre door pull have been sourced. Work is due to be completed by the third week of July. Sussex House will once again have an exterior befitting it's grand exterior and fine Georgian proportions.
